Where to donate your breastmilk.

I had no idea how it worked. I knew people could donate their breastmilk to share with other babies. I just didn’t know the process of doing it safely.
With the formula shortage in the US, a lot of parents are left to scramble for how to feed their children.
Some safe options listed include switching to similar formular in a different brand, speaking to your child’s regular doctor, using donor breastmilk etc.
So many amazing parents have reached out asking how to donate their breastmilk. Searching online for ‘how tos’ might be overwhelming but having a community of parents who have done it was awesome.

Where to donate your breastmilk
Human Milk 4 Human babies:
- Find their facebook pages and look up your state (or country)
- This seemed to be the most used & global

The Milk bank:
- Application process was long
- You can also do a phone screening
- Required a minimum of 100 ounces

Mother’s milk bank:
- Has an easy process
- Wanted a minimum of 50 ounces not frozen longer than 8 months

Check your local children’s hospital
- If it’s for NICU babies, milk cannot have alcohol in it

- Milk still need to be screened for safe sharing to occur

Special considerations to know
- Some donor banks want a minimum amount
- Some will not accept milk that you pumped when you may have had alcohol
- Milk for NICU babies require more screening (for alcohol etc)
- Some require a certain duration of being frozen
- Label your milk by date.
- Label if you have taken any alcohol or if you were on any medications (this can help you easily sort through which to donate or not)
