🌟 Injuries can happen at any time to us or our kids. Cuts (also called lacerations are one of the most common.
But here’s the thing, a lot of us make mistakes once we see a cut or a wound bleeding. Because blood can be scary for some, we see a lot of bleeding wounds incorrectly controlled before they get to seek care.
Here are 3 things you should change if you or your child has a bleeding wound
1. No SOFT pressure.
Yes, you don’t need soft pressure for controlling bleeding.
✅ You need to put some FIRM pressure on a wound to control the bleed. Otherwise it continues bleeding for a longer period of time
2. Don’t remove the wash cloth
When you place a cloth on the bleeding wound while putting pressure, and it gets fully soaked in blood, you don’t have to take it off. It delays the pressure time.
✅ Put ANOTHER wash cloth on top and continue with applying firm pressure.
3. Stop checking
We are alwaus curious to know if the bleeding has stopped and doing this delays the time it’ll take for the bleeding to get controlled. Stop checking every few seconds or mins.
✅ Bleeding wounds need firm pressure for at least 10 to 15 mins (some may stop before then but best to give at least 10mins)
If persistently bleeding, call for help
Sometimes these mistakes bring you and your little ones to the ER a little earlier than you should.
