How to ask for Guns where your kids play (or visit)

Some questions are super-weird or awkward to ask.
But when it comes to the safety of our kids, getting used to weird could be the option.
𝐀𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐆𝐔𝐍𝐒 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐝’𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭. In line with National Ask Day, there are so many reasons to de-stigmatize asking about these.
😔 Recently, a toddler in Florida shot his mom while she was on a zoom meeting. To this toddler, it was probably another toy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. (my heart goes out to the family including this kid who has to remember this trauma)
😔 This is not the first case I or any other ER physician has seen. Kids can handle guns and pull a trigger and most of the time, not for the reason you adults do. Even when your child has been taught about safety around guns, other families may not be on the same page. An example is that of Noah Melton who was shot by a peer during a sleepover
🔫 The truth is, 1 in 3 homes with kids in US have a gun and most of these are loaded and unlocked
🔫 Nearly 40% of all unintentional shooting deaths among children 11-14 years of age occur in the home of a friend
