Is medication a struggle for you & your littles? You are not alone 😫😫

We took our last day or amoxicillin of Strept. I'm so bad with antibiotics completion, so I had to set a daily alarm to do this.

My daughter used to be great with taking meds, but it has been a struggle lately.

Knowing this had to be completed, I tried different things, including a token (candy, books, food choices) with some meds. With meds, try whatever works for you at that time.

Other helpful things
- asking pharmacist to compound it in their preferred flavor
- using chocolate flavor or maple syrup
-sprinkles
- Layer with whipped cream

This might be more stressful or different for kids on daily meds.

What options work for you? For kids on daily meds what do you do?
🌟 Here's the answers to questions that I anticipated would be from the previous reel.. watch that first.

🌟 Bordetella PARAPERTUSSIS is a cousin to BUT NOT Pertussis.

🌟 Breathe!! severe illness is rare, but since we have been seeing this more and asked questions about it by patients, i wanted to share it with a wider audience

Browse through slides and lets chat. What other questions do you have?

🌟 This has been our reaction since we noticed tests coming back with this bug.

🌟 Bordetella Parapertussis is a baby cousin to pertussis whooping cough and seems to have been making its way around.

🌟 Kids may present with a more prolonged cough and repeat visits to either ER or Dr's office

🌟 I have a more detailed post on it shortly, but it might be a good idea to test kids at risk of getting sicker, or if your child has been having prolonged symptoms, best to get them checked.

NB: Prolonged cough can be caused by many things, including repeat viral infections

Check next post for a Carousel on this...

When it comes to pacifiers, there's no 'one size fits all'.
Different babies use different types and for different durations.

🌟 Weaning pacis are not an easy feat, esp when kids are already used to them.
The easiest time to wean the pacifier is around 6 or 7 months of age because children haven’t developed an emotional attachment to their binky yet, but we all know most kids want it longer than that.

Here are some weaning ways that may be safer
● Limit use. slow gently wean
● Introduce another favorite object (blankies)
● Praise them for not using it
● Go cold turkey
● Pay attention to when they use it often and consider alternate ways to soothe them

🌟 Cutting them and giving to a little one may be risky. Some may decide to leave it if cut, but some others suck on it still. It's difficult to watch your baby 24 hours when using a cut pacifier. So it might not be the best option

Did your little ones use a pacifier, and how did u wean them?

Happy Sunday

Today is just another ER shift for me
Some of my Peds ER fellowship procedure shifts may look like this.

Has your child ever had any of these procedures, or which are you curious about?
